Interesting Book about Presentaion

Monday, December 31st, 2007

43 Folders has a good overview of an interesting book about producing better presentations. The book is: Presentation Zen: Simple Ideas on Presentation Design and Delivery (Voices That Matter) By Garr Reynolds
Excerpt:

Using grids to divide your slide “canvas” into thirds, for example, is an easier way to approach golden-mean proportions, and you can use the grids to align the elements that give the overall design balance, a clear flow and point of focus, and a natural overall cohesiveness and aesthetic quality that is not accidental but is by design.

The Underground History of American Education

Wednesday, September 8th, 2004

Slashdot has a review of an interesting book entitled ‘The Underground History of American Education’ by John Taylor Gatto. The basis of the book is that the American education system is setup not to educate people, but to produce an easily manageable workforce to serve employers in a mass-production economy. I had heard about this before but this is the first I have heard of this source.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

Monday, August 23rd, 2004

Joel on Software has a good writeup on Asperger’s Syndrome. The well-regognized symptoms include an inability to interpret peoples’ emotions from their facial expressions, incredibly logical thought processes that make math easy but human relations darn near impossible, and fear of physical contact with other people.

Anyway, he has a writeup about a very interesting sounding book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

After seemingly forever since Cryptonomicon, Neal Stephenson is releasing another book this week, titled ‘Quicksilver’. “Slashdot”:http://slashdot.org has a “review of the upcoming book”:http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/09/22/0515243. It sounds like it should be a good read. (Mine’s scheduled to arrive on Friday!)

The DaVinci Code (Review)

Monday, April 21st, 2003

Last Wednesday I linked to a review about a book I had heard and seen called ‘The DaVinci Code’. I just funushed the book and all I can say is ‘It’s Awesome!’

The Book book merges several areas I find really interesting, such as Cryptography, Biblical History and ‘Secret Organizations’. The author has created a very cool fictional novel that is full of factual information.
