National Science Foundation: Science Hard

INDIANAPOLIS—The National Science Foundations annual symposium concluded Monday, with the 1,500 scientists in attendance reaching the consensus that science is hard.

“For centuries, we have embraced the pursuit of scientific knowledge as one of the noblest and worthiest of human endeavors, one leading to the enrichment of mankind both today and for future generations,” said keynote speaker and NSF chairman Louis Farian. “However, a breakthrough discovery is challenging our long-held perceptions about our discipline—the discovery that science is really, really hard.”

I ran across a hilarious video on digg featuring an (what looked like to the audience) an impromptu musical in a food court in a mall. I saw this on BoingBoing and had to post it. Someone has a fantastic collection of theme songs from the cartoons we grew up with! Remember Captain Caveman? How about GI Joe? He’s got them all!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Looking over at my Yahoo News feed I ran across this article about a kissing class being offered in Seattle, WA. Sounds like fun!

Excerpt:

Each class begins with foot rubs, back-to-back dancing and tender kisses on the hand. Students slowly graduate to neck nibbles, ear exploration and finally lip locks.

As Byrd guides couples through exercises, such as kissing only the bottom lip or licking an ear, soft music plays. In a calm, breathy voice she tells them to “tease, surrender and risk” touching their partner in ways they’ve never tried before.

I found this link over on BoinbBoing earlier this week and ment to post it for several knitting friends out in Seattle. Citizen Skein brings us annatomically correct knitting projects. I’m particularly fond of the uterus that can (apparently) play the piano! There’s something for everybody!

Here’s a strange one. A Minnesota woman glued her foot to the floor after using 3M’s Liquid Bandage. The little problem required the help of paramedics to free her.
